on Tuesday. Arriving after dark-in the middle of a wind storm-we where not able to see much of anything. Over the last few days however the weather has been lovely! We had lots of sunshine for both races and a clear view of a few little mountain ranges off in the distance.
From what I can tell, Rogla is a Slovenian version of what most people think of as a “ski resort” in the US. One thing that’s a little different though is you start on top of the mountain, ski down, then ride the lifts back to your car/hotel/restaurant. It doesn’t look to be a very “extreme” alpine hill, but the Nordic trails are sweet!
The race course sets around 5000ft, with both races being held on a 5km loop. From what I gather they are a little low on snow this year, but the race course was in great shape. After only spending 4-5 days here in Rogla (and recovering from a mild cold just before I left) I was realistic with my form coming into this weekend. However, I would have liked to feel a little better then 26th and ski into the top 15 (full result can be found here:http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/1228.html?event_id=29585&cal_suchsector=CC)
As a group, most of us where pleased with our races, but we’re definitely looking to be mixin’ it up at the top of the results list!
Kate skied strong near the lead pack and Sylvan had two constant days on the tracks, so we’re looking for more top 10’s next week in Ramsau for OPA finals!
In closing, I would send out a BIG thanks to Bryan, Gus and Casey for all the hard work on our skis over the weekend!
Also, thank you to NCCSEF and all those who support X-c skiing in the US! This trip means a lot to everyone here and just want anyone that has ever helped NCCSEF over the years that we Thank You!
